Prototype 1938 DSP
Clark, Roland
Prototype 1938 DSP
How was the 1938 DSP design decided upon? We know that it came from the 1933 etching of 5 pintails, the lower middle 2 being the eventual stamp design.
Here is an etching of the lower 3 pintails from the 1933 etching. It is unsigned where Clark usually signed etchings, but on the margin it is signed in ink along with Roland's New York address, 137 E. 66 St, N.Y. City.
It appears once Clark was considered to do the design, Roland initially investigated using 3 Pintails. A fantastic one of one, piece of federal duck stamp history.
Framed to museum standards.
